Agnes C. Cárdenas

Agnes C. Cárdenas

Agnes C. Cárdenas is a native New Mexican, born and raised in El Prado, NM, and currently working at the Metropolitan Detention Center, Bernalillo County. She works with programs designed to assist inmates with instruction on Life Skills, Character-Building Skills, Case Management and Re-integrations Services.  She worked for the Commission on the Status of Women as a Job Developer and for New Mexico State University in the Income Support Services Office assisting with case management for TANF (Temporary Assistance Needy Families). She was appointed by Governor Bill Richardson in July 2007 as the Education and Training Director, State Approving Agency for the State of the New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services.  Previously, she held the position of the first Woman County Manager for Taos County.  She had also worked as a Mathematics and Music teacher in the Taos Municipal School System.  She worked in the private sector as a sales engineer with Inter-Tel Technologies, Inc.  She has worked in county government in the fields of Community Development, Information Technology, and Human Resources Management.  Ms. Cardenas is a Top Ten graduate of Taos High School, obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from New Mexico Highlands University.  Cardenas enlisted in the United States Army from 1989 to 1995, and was assigned to Top Secret Duty at the Pentagon, the Personnel Command in Alexandria VA and to the Defense Language Institute English Learning Center in San Antonio, TX.  She utilized her GI Bill and obtained a Master’s Degree in Computer Resource Information Management at Webster University while on active duty.    She is a Desert Storm Disabled Veteran.
